Çok başarılı bir caz müzisyeni olan C.K. Dexter Haven, Newport, Rhode Island sosyetesinden olan zengin karısı Tracy Samantha Lord'dan yeni ayrılmıştır ama Haven hala eski karısına çok aşıktır. Ne var ki Tracy terbiyeli bir centilmen olan George Kittredge ile evlenmek üzeredir. Spy dergisi, Tracy'nin babasıyla ilgili utanç verici bir makale yayıınlamak üzeredir. Yayınlamamaları için tek şart ise Tracy'nin düğününü haber yapmalarıdır. Lord ailesi bu teklifi kabul etmek zorunda kalırlar ve bu yüzden dergi Tracy'lere yazar Mike Connor'ı ve fotoğrafçı Liz Imbrie'yi gönderir. Tracy dergiden gelenlere bir oyun oynamaya başlar ve böylelikle onlardan kendince intikamını alır. Connor, Tracy'ye aşık olmuştur. Tracy artık ona aşık üç adamdan birini seçmek zorunda kalır. Bu seçim sürecinde ise kendini keşfetmeye başlar.
