Pierre çok şanslı bir adamdır. Güzel bir karısı, güzel bir evi, güzel bir işi vardır... Arkadaşlarıyla en büyük eğlencesi ise çevrelerindeki en salak kişileri tespit edip, onlarla bir akşam yemeği boyunca eğlenmektir. Bu nedenle her çarşamba günü bir araya gelip 'salaklar sofrası' adı verilen bir eğlence tertip ederler. Pierre'in bulduğu son salak ise kibrit çöplerinden yaptığı ev maketleriyle büyük gurur duyan ve bu konuda kitap bile yazmayı düşünen Fransçois adlı bir adamdır. Fakat o geceki yemeği iptal eden Pierre'i büyük belalar beklemektedir. Fransçois, onun sırt ağrılarına, vergi sorunlarına ve karısını tekrar kazanmasına kararlıdır. Pierre ömrünün en zor gecesini yaşayacaktır.
